WHO! WHAT! WHEN! & WHY! Making Sense of Contemporary Art is a how-to book for anyone interested in art, but who may be confused, sceptical or downright dismissive of contemporary art’s more challenging manifestations. The book describes an easy-to-use ‘code’ for tackling contemporary art without the need for prior knowledge or lengthy artist statements. In doing so it provides an alternative to judgement that is often the endgame of looking at art but which doesn’t work for contemporary art that is a bit off putting at first glance. Readers can enact and test the code through the prisms of famous controversial artworks as well as works by significant Tasmanian artists.
