Short & Not Always Sweet reflects a lifetime of experiences through poetry and prose, of an 85 year-old woman who never intended to say, ‘if only …’ It was Gough Whitlam who gave Mary Jenkins a chance to be educated. She was in her 70s when she completed a PhD. This followed working as a model and brothel investigator in London; an au-pair in France; lover and mother in Sweden; associate builder: Cohousing, Hobart; a casual lecturer; and, finally, a home builder in Cygnet, Tasmania. These experiences have all affected her life and writing.
