The People’s Library is a contemporary artwork with a uniquely Tasmanian library at its core. Over 150 authors bring this performance library to life through readings, discussions and live events. Join us throughout September where a groundswell of public telling awaits.
On Southern Islands consists of over 60 small stories and a large number of black and white photos, sketches, and a few lino-cuts. They are souvenirs of times spent on three subantarctic islands; Macquarie, Heard Island and South Georgia; over three and a half decades between 1979 and 2014. The stories appeared from the author’s head, referring only to her field notebooks, diaries and journals later to get the chronology of her visits to the islands in the correct order. These memories had been sitting there in her head all along, waiting to come out.
