Lou Cunningham lived with her family on a bush block by the sea in Tasmania, Australia. She worked as an early childhood teacher. When she was in her early 40s, after a traumatic divorce, and when her two sons left home, she changed direction and took up a teaching position in the jungle in Kalimantan, working for an Australian mining company. She worked overseas in international schools for 15 years living in Kalimantan, West Papua, Hungary, China and Germany. She travelled widely, often solo, always seeking adventure. After 15 years she returned to her home by the sea. Because I Can: One Woman’s Journey is the story of her journey.
